Our General Meeting Show and Share includes, but is not limited to, Guest Speakers, Trunk Shows, Members sharing their work, Helping Hands Quilts and completed Workshop projects.
Shirley Dawson, our Guest Speaker, knows a thing about sewing and quilting Forced to learn, as many of us did, in grade 7, her career covered a wide path from 911 operator to fashion designer and maker of bespoke garments. Her wonderful trunk show included a number of “F” words which included Fear – that self-doubt we all have, Failure – the ultimate learning opportunity, Finish – an ever moving goal post, and ultimately Freedom – that feeling we get when we let go of the things that burden us or open the door to our LFS (local fabric shop). Shirley is a lifelong maker and teacher. After graduating from Sheridan College, with several awards under her belt, she started her career in the textile industry. This career included designing, making and selling a line of children’s clothes in the Toronto area, including the “One of a Kind” shows. This lifelong sewist is enjoying the quilting world, teaching and designing, and sharing her talents. Working with wool and hand appliqué is just one of her current creative outlets.
